I was watching Japanese Tv the other day and I saw an interesting documentary on the Renaissance. Yes, Japanese TV. This is what I watch while you're wasting your life with Buffy and the MTV music awards. There was an interesting segment on Machiavelli; it was exceptional in that it starred Beat Takeshi as Machiavelli, in period costume, no less. This was very cool, as I managed to tape it and could pause the show and sketch the clothing and locations. They showed the interior of Machiavelli's office in the Palazzo Vecchio, which I was absolutely thrilled to see, as I had no idea what it looked like outside the description from De Grazia's Machiavelli in Hell. So you can rest assured that the office interior which you will see in Chapter One is historically accurate and not just a wild flight of fancy (I have just begun drawing the page in which he arrives in his
office and meets his friend and coworker Biagio Buanaccorsi).
I have also begun page 3 of Departure. I can't give away any plot details because I don't want to spoil the surprise. Russ McIntosh, the writer, who has displayed the patience of a saint in waiting for these pages, is looking to have Departure wrapped up in November. Okay, then. I really should have finished this a long time ago ...
